Experiments have shown that chemicals from the exhausts of school buses can leak into the passenger area so that the children breathe more pollutants than people standing in the street.
Saipan Volcano Erupts Over Pacific Islands
Anatahan Volcano erupted (picture) Wednesday morning, spreading ash over Anatahan, Saipan and Tinian Islands about 3,800 miles southwest of Hawaii. Children were sent home and motorists advised not to drive in the ash, but there ware no injuries or major problems. The plume rose 50,000 feet and aircraft have been advised to avoid the area.
Calif. Coastal Commission Future Uncertain
The California Supreme Court is reviewing the composition of the Coastal Commission, which is charged with protecting the California coast and has upset a lot of coastal property owners along the way. The court is being asked to review cases from the past 29 years.
21 Counties Removed From Dirty-Air List
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has removed 21 counties in nine states (Alabama, California, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia) from a watch list of 225 counties in 20 states which either did not meet clean air standards on soot or whose status was not known.
